Subject: Blast from the past!

Lonnie-One of my children came to visit and he showed me this google site and we read your statements. I was touched that you would remember me. Diedra is no longer teaching and you probably remember Rosemary died of cancer. Ray has retired too. If he hadn't left, perhaps I would still be where my heart is! If you get this, please do write back. -Joan

Mrs. Tidwell,

I don't know if you remember this, but I once made a zero on an assignment in your class. I felt like the grade would cause me to fail the class, and the thought of failing caused me to cry.

You attempted to comfort me, but I was unable to regain my composure until you showed me something that I'd never forget. Without preparation, you turned to a page toward the back of your grade book, and you show me something that you had written there days prior. The circled sentence read "Lonnie Best is the smartest child in my classes."

Mrs. Tidwell, you wrote that you were touched that I remembered you, but it is I who is touched, *each time* I remember you.

Thank you for being a caring motivator in my early education.

Lonnie Lee Best
